As part of the Great British Spring Clean, TransWilts are organising the Great British Spring Clean at Chippenham and Trowbridge Stations, and the Melksham Rail User Group at their suggestion is organising one at Melksham Station on 13th April.   Contact Sophie (you'll find the latest news via tweets on the link above) for Chippenham or Trowbridge ... if you would like to join in at Melksham, there's a dedicated page at http://www.mrug.org.uk/clean.html ... and I'm master of ceremonies.

Melksham Station is now served by up to 18 trains per day, and it's the gateway to the town for many new visitors.. Let's make it something to be proud of.

10 a.m. to Midday, 13.4.2019, meet in the Station Car park. We have divided the area into 9.  One is rail side and we may not be able to do it, one has what I would consider hazardous materials and is out of the way, and we will skip it, and 3 only require light cleaning.  But that gives us four good projects to get our teeth (please not literally - we'll use litter pickers) into.

Tomorrow ... litter pick / GB (Great Britain) Spring Clean at Melksham Station.  We have split the car parks for the station, Station Approach and subway into 8 areas and - starting at 10:00 a.m. (09:30 arrivals welcome) our volunteer at the Melksham Rail User Group will have the place spick and span and a gateway to Melksham we can be proud of.

Pictures (below) from our briefing a couple of weeks ago - but we can accommodate one of two extras - let me know or even just turn up.  Similar co-ordinated tidy ups taking place at Chippenham and Trowbridge; get in touch with Sophie at TransWilts if you would like to be involved at either of these places.

P.S.  I will have the equipment - picking it up this morning- and supplies of box drinks and biscuits for volunteers, the rubbish from which we will take with us.

14 volunteeers ... 7 zones covered (out of 9) ... all litter picked and light spring cleaned and tidied up.

Station Approach at Melksham is not designed to be pretty or breathtaking, but at least it's now tidier, smarter, more welcoming.  Truth be told, it really wasn't all that messy to start with - certain individual areas are cleaned from time to time anyway, but putting in all together and catching litter dropped between has made a noticeable difference. I will post some "before" and "after"s later.  THANK YOU everyone!

Getting ready - and getting started:

Group photo and a big THANK YOU

Sorry - no cafe for tea and cakes.  But Melksham Rail User Group did provide biscuits and boxed drinks!

Next Melksham Transport Events - 27th April, Community bus trip to Swanage and 28th April, trip to the Seaton Tramway - see http://www.passenger.chat/21381 for details.  Melksham Rail User Group meeting on 22nd May (I should post that to the calendar) .. and I have additions to make for 22nd and 29th June.
