Well done to the Oldfield team (I think Severnside CRP▸ and GWR▸ ), a very appropriate celebration. It was a pleasure to drop in and see the support from the local community.
I'll second that. Had a quick nose around on my way back from Bath just after 16.00. It was pretty well attended when I was there. They were giving away commemorative metal button badges too, which I thought was a nice touch. The attendant staff were on fine form too.
Edit: Spolling
And I'll third it.
I saw the Mayor and Mayoress arrive by train then walked around to the hall. The last time I had set foot in that hall was for the exhibition we held in 1989. I don't mind admitting that it was quite a strange feeling!
The event organisers included Cllr June Player and other members of the On Board Project which she set up and has run since 2007 and which, as others have said, has made such a lovely job of the station over that time. There was a display of photos and press cuttings about the project over the years.
GWR supported the event really well - there were commemorative ticket wallets as well as the badges - and Heather at Severnside CRP always puts on a good do, whatever it is. Lots of entries from local schoolchildren for the Birthday card competition and students from Bath Cappella sang some songs towards the end.
All in all, a very nice event and a good turnout. I hope I can help with celebrating the Centenary and hope too the Coffee Shop will still be in rude health for us to publicise and discuss the celebrations. I'm sure it will be!
