The above was held this evening with two speakers. The first, Ian Warmsley, spoke on the West of England Mainline and possible developments from his perspective. It was a fascinating presentation and thought provoking. He also mentioned 3rd rail electrification, featured in the current Modern Railways. Look out for Ian Prosser’s reply next month!
The second speaker was Andrew Ardley, Regional Development Manager with SWR» (South Western Railway - about). He detailed some of the improvement in the timetable in May. The Corfe Castle service is set to return. Perhaps the most interesting part was the discussing of the interconnections between various nodes in the network and how they interact. One example given was the Trans Wilts developments.
The impact of the diversions on time-keeping was also mentioned, with the problem of freight timings featured.

Good news about the Corfe Castle service.

Swanage Railway have been very quiet about the relaunch of the Wareham-Swanage service using one of their own DMUs (Diesel Multiple Unit). Last I heard it had been sent away for modifications for main line use and that was quite sometime ago.

Must try and go on this service this year if I can find a vacant Saturday in my busy schedule, already a number of Saturdays already pencilled in including IMBERBUS on August 17th.
