The Great Model Railway Challenge starts this Friday at 8 p.m. on Channel 5

For Rail Users in Pewsey - a choice between the Pewsey Vale Rail User Group and the TV (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context).   Personally, I would suggest you attend your user group.

Bake Off, Master Chef and all the others translated into a model railway building competition. Not for everyone perhaps but it brought a big grin to my face. Channel 5 are definitely doing a lot of railway and engineering sort of stuff currently and I, for one, approve. I'm tuning into them a lot more these days.

I enjoyed it too. It was just the right side of tongue in cheek. Playfully affectionate towards the more enthusiastic and eccentric in the railway modelling community. Rather than disparaging and mickey taking.

The winners of the first episode deserved their place in the final. Doing their build entirely from scratch. Unlike the over-confident team from Buckinghamshire who pre-built much of their layout (bending the rules to breaking point) yet still failed to complete it.

Apropos of nothing, this was my 16000th post. Crikey.

Our verdict entirely but I would love to see what they are capable of in less contrived circumstances.
