ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) have taken all their 175s out of service today because of an unspecified safety problem identified last night  That scrubs all the Manchester to Milford Haven services and means no trains between Newport and Shrewsbury.

Wheel flanges affected on 175s caused by faulty pointwork or the other way round.   Don't think establised yet but suspect points on North Wales coast affected.     Chester to Manchester cancelled also.

That's what happens when you separate the management of the wheel from the rail. They spend the time arguing whose fault it is.

Chief problem I have with the Class 17x used on the Manchester to Milford Haven route is that the demand for the service outstrips the capacity for the number of people wishing to travel: whenever I get on there are usually almost no seats, if any, free.

Hopefully some newer rolling stock with more passenger capacity will come in one day.
