Help yourself to some spuds as you wait for the train

DIGGING IN: Volunteers and Totnes mayor Jacqi Hodgson at the community planting day at Totnes railway station

Totnes rail commuters are being invited to pick their own while they wait for the train.

Green fingered volunteers from the Network of Wellbeing, Transition Town Totnes, Totnes Gardens, Totnes Rail Users Group and First Great Western, which manages Totnes railway station, have been planting up beds at Totnes station.

Their recent planting day built on the success of the first two 'Incredible Edible' station beds ^ on platform one and the staff car park.

Public edible gardens throughout Totnes and the UK (United Kingdom) offer free food to anyone willing to help themselves.

The Totnes Station Community Planting Day was carried out by 15 volunteers including Totnes Mayor Jacqi Hodgson.

Project manager, Dr Larch Maxey said: "The response to these new planting has been overwhelming. Many people appreciated the transformation of this neglected patch into one full of interesting plants and attractive flowers. All we now hope is people to come and pick their own while they wait for a train. Thank you everyone who has helped turn the station into a beautiful and abundant oasis."

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
