Cornwall Council failed to acknowledge the 0930 start time when the Truro P&R (Park and Ride) was introduced and allowed use prior to that. They also failed to realise that P&R services could be excluded in the offer too. They've been catching up ever since, now the Senior Passes only attract a discount after 0930 weekdays and on Saturdays.

Buses of Somerset charge a flat fare of £2 to use an oldies' bus pass before 9.30, it is rather a shame that other First Bus areas don't seem to do this. I shall be trying it out in the near future when I am at last entitled to the said pass.

Faresaver in Wiltshire charge child fare before 0930. I'm not aware of First or Stagecoach offering any concessions. There is also a published list of pre-0930 concessions on the less frequent village services

First in Cornwall have a flat fare of £2.40 before 0930 and after 2300.

When Wessex ran a service from my home area to the Centre of Bristol they charged a flat fare of £1 before 9.00am. At a local transport forum meeting, following criticism from members of the public about pensioners having to pay the full fare if they have an early hospital appointment, I made suggestions that following the opening of the New Super Hospital at Southmead in Bristol could an understanding be made that pensioners could utilise their bus pass before 9.00am on production of their hospital appointment letter. From a First Bus representative at the meeting the response was that the L.A. would have to agree to such a relaxation of the rules and so that response killed off any hope of a deal as knowing the L.A. concerned the answer would be an emphatic NO. For me personally it would involve 2 buses whichever way I choose to go and thus a Dayrider ticket which when I last purchased one was £6.60. The next forum meeting is on Monday 24th February and I'll raise the subject again and see if First Bus are prepared to compromise and apply a flat fare for use before 9.00am citing the comments made in other posts on this thread particularly the other First Bus areas.

Kernowland charges £2.40 either side of the bewitching hours BUT that is a Cornwall Council price, not a First price.  The whole £2.40 goes to the Council, not to First. Pensioners complain about the cost to the driver as if it goes into his pocket!
Weekends and bank holidays are time free/unrestricted by the way.

I don’t qualify for a senior bus pass yet, but I struggle to stay awake after 11pm!
