Mark Carne, the chief executive of Network Rail, has advised the Board that he has decided to retire from the company later this year. Mark Carne is a customer focused CEO^▸ knowing its not just the TOC^▸ n FOC^▸ that are the customer but the travelling public, he also holds work force safety dear to his heart, as such Mark Carne I believe has been a very good CEO for Network Rail he has fought a number of "political" battles with the Government. His payoff will not be a grandiose as a CEO of a private sector company NR^» is a public sector company, as such has limits set by the Government, also he doesn't have big juicy share options as part of his remuneration.
