I noticed the following report; A review of demand and solutions for cycle carriage on trains in the West Highlands: https://hitrans.org.uk/Documents/Train2Ride_Study.pdf
It would be interesting to see if the Scottish Government can persuade the West Highland Line operator to take this up. An alternative solution being “Rather than utilise a freight vehicle, consideration should be given to the conversion of suitable rolling stock, for example 153 sprinter units that will be shortly available to provide this facility".
Must admit I miss the old electric stock that used to be used on the Brockenhurst - Lymington line which had a guards van which was very useful in an area where cycling is encouraged (by the hire places next to Brockenhurst station, if not the New Forest residents).

Covered further in The Scotsman

The tourist crush on Scotland’s busiest scenic rail lines is to be eased with dedicated carriages for bikes and sporting equipment. Ministers are developing plans to introduce the segregated space in trains on the West Highland and Far North lines. The routes to Oban, Mallaig, Kyle of Lochalsh and Thurso are often crammed with passengers travelling with bikes during the summer months.

Are there bike facilities on the GWR (Great Western Railway) sleeper?
