One of the big problems public transport timetable planners have is how they should deal with station dwell times needed for loading and unloading. In GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) land, you may have noted as you dawdle your way in an HST▸ (High Speed Train) through the Berks and Hants local stations, how dwell times vary based on whether or not passengers close doors behind them, and we see dwell times at Melksham rise when working "single door".   

From The Rochdale Herald - a piece about how one railway company has decided to address the problem

Following the announcement of a move to driverless trains, bosses have decided to phase out passengers too.

"It’s all quite logical really," CEO▸ (Chief Executive Officer) Rex Service told the Rochdale Herald. "First we bring out the innovation of driverless trains, which of course remove the factor of human error. Now if we do away with the passengers, there’ll be no hanging around at the stations for ages as people get on and off."
