This week, I'm working at BS32 4QL - that's close to the Almonsbury interchange (in the bottom left corner of the junction).  And I hope to travel out in the morning from Melksham / back in the evening (I may stop over some nights). I am required to be there at 08:30

Ideally, I would take a train to Aztec West Station (at 139, Gloucester Road, Bristol BS34 6NA) and walk - 25 minutes according to Google.   Slight problem is that although the train is at the Aztec West major business area (at 08:09 - perfect) there isn't actually a station there and it sails on by toward Pilning and another country.

TravelLine suggests I get the train that arrives at Filton Abbey Wood at 08:00, walk to McDonald's and catch the bus no. 77 at 08:14, getting to Patchbook Way Roundabout at 08:33 and from there walk to destination, arriving 08:45.

If I catch the train to Patchway, it gets there at 08:06 but then the walk is 46 minutes - more than I want with a heavy load of manuals on the first morning, and still arriving well after 08:30.

With an extra change I can get to Bristol Parkway at 08:08, but that's a 59 minute walk.

There's a huge number of businesses in the BS32 4QL area - surely there's got to to be something quicker than 45 minutes from Filton?   Would the locals offer me a lift if I hitched up my kilt and thumbed a lift?

Google Maps doesn't beat this option either

Service 73 would get you from Parkway to Woodlands Lane but not in time as it is a good 20 minute run at that time of the day then you have a walk.  Your best bet would probably be a taxi from Parkway (I have never seen a taxi at Abbey Wood)

OK - thanks.  Are taxis reliably available on a rank at Parkway at that time?

If the distance is shorter, a cab can be ordered to collect you at Filton AW. Check www.traintaxi.co.uk for local taxi numbers at that station

My suggestion too. The best form of public transport for this particular journey is rail then taxi.

Get any train to BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains), then get the 73 bus to Cribbs Causeway, and get off at Aztech West, should be a few minutes walk. This bus runs every 15 minutes. The journey is about 15 minutes.

I can confirm the bus is regular from 0600-2200, although the Metrobus does play havic at some times
