are there any train companies in Europe that transport car plus passengers into Europe similar to the old Newton Abbott to Stirling motor rail service.

Just one from the UK (United Kingdom) - a Folkestone to Calais service.  There are some services over longer distances in Mainland Europe too; when I last looked, they headed south from Dusseldorf to Austria and Italy, with further onward services as far as Turkey
