There are a number of changes over the weekend.

Because of rugby in Cardiff on Saturday 13 February, there will be two additional HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) services from Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central, at 1012 calling at Bristol Parkway, and 1112 calling at Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Parkway. I can see only one additional return HST service, leaving Cardiff at 2003.

In the round ball game, Ipswich Town play Bristol City, which would provide many passengers for Ashton Gate station, were it open.

Throughout the weekend, rail replacement works mean bustitution between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston super Mare. Services to Taunton and beyond will be diverted via Bathampton and Castle Cary, with additional journey times of up to 80 minutes. That said, the journey to Taunton seems to be timed around 1:23. If the weather is nice (and if I am not headed for Swindon), I may take a ride, just for fun.

So I went for a pint in Taunton, and a very pleasant sojourn it was! I boarded a 4-car XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) service at Temple Meads which had been crammed and standing from Leeds, according to my fellow traveller, just met. It was OK from Temple Meads, with the TM (Train Manager, or possibly Ticket Machine, depending on context) imploring those still sitting on their luggage to move back down the train to take one of the many empty seats.

The Somerset levels were a bit floody around Athelney, but nothing on the scale of recent memory. I thoroughly enjoyed my little excursion. And a pint of Butcombe in the Grove.
