Four new park and rides are planned for the outskirts of Bristol - with existing services also set to expand (link below.)

Located at Emersons Green, Whitchurch, near the M32 and near Parkway station, they are part of a masterplan aimed at cutting congestion in and around the city centre.

Two of these - at Parkway and Emersons Green - are priority projects and should be ready within five years.

The other two form part of the West Of England Partnership bid for a share of the Government's ^1.4 billion Transport Innovation Fund.

Obviously going to be better than a light rail scheme then.....

but, wait a minute, of course more buses.

Never forget that First are principally a bus company, Moir is a bus driver, park and ride he loves. Park and tram I'm not sure he'd be very enthusiastic.

Moir "No you don't want a tram in Bristol Mr Council member, I'll knock 2 Mil of our next demand for running a shoddy bus service"

Members "That's alright matey we''ll be getting shed loads of a ^1.4M grant about then"

Job done.

Look- forget buses and car parks.

Reopen all the railways in the area.

Reopen all the stations.

Electrify all the lines.

Add relief tracks where appropriate (to speed up InterCity trains).

Introduce fast and frequent "clock-face" timetables.

This means spending half the money and actually getting a better result, without concreting any more fields over, or having any more buses trundling past people houses!

Result- no more traffic jams. No more pollution. No more climate change. No more "Bristol will be under the sea in 20 years" etc.

Look- forget buses and car parks.

I believe they have their place if properly integrated with the rail service - as indeed does smokey Grin :
