Emergency services at Twickenham station

Emergency services are at Twickenham railway station after an "incident involving a person on the track", South West Trains has said.

The company said a "customer has had an accident" and train services in both directions would be delayed as crews attended the scene.

It happened as thousands of fans left Twickenham following England's victory over Fiji in the first clash of the rugby World Cup.

The station is being evacuated.

It's been an accident waiting to happen for some time I'm afraid and there have been a number of "near misses"....I'm a regular at Twickenham but always go for a few ales afterwards to let the "traffic" die down on the trains and walk to Whitton station rather than Twickenham.....the first hour post match is always a nightmare and the station simply isn't up to it, the late kick offs don't help as people are in more of a rush to get away so go straight back to the station - bad planning all round.
