The Severn Beach Line service is currently terminating at Clifton and turning back after the 0836 from Avonmouth to Bristol Temple Meads hit a boulder at Horseshoe Bend between Shirehampton and Sea Mills. The train crew were able to remove the boulder from the track and continue, but the line was subsequently closed so that an inspection could be carried out.
As of 1100 there is concern from a Network Rail earthworks examiner about another boulder on the embankment. The line in this area runs along the side of a steep bank next to the River Avon.
