What's the problem here?

I had a bit of dilemma here:



The train to the left is in passenger service, the 1603 Bristol TM^‡(resolve)-Avonmouth on Platform 1 at Temple Meads. What's wrong though?

Its a 153, so you best walk 21metres to the other end to avoid breaching the sign.

There's a suspicious item of unattended luggage on the platform.  You need to report it to the British Transport Police in their office on platform 3.

Now, here's the thing. I wanted to bag the unit number of the 153, which was attached to a 150, and to do so I passed the sign. Should I have done so? After all we are often told to use all available doors. I chose to use the front door.

Should that front door have been locked out of use or should the sign be further down the platform to allow for the occasional 150+153 combo on P1? Sometimes you'll even find a 4 car Voyager departing from that platform with all doors nominally available for passenger use. I think the sign should be further up the platform but is where it is because there is a convenient post to put it on.

The case was mine. There for illustrative purposes and never unattended by more than 10ft.
