First Great Western services between Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury delayed after person hit by train.A man has been killed after being struck by a train near Reading West station this morning.
Rail passengers faced delays of up to 60 minutes as a result of the incident which happened between Theale and Reading West at about 10.30am. Lines have now re-opened and services are returning to normal.
A statement from British Transport Police said: "Our officers were called to Reading West station at 10.30am on Monday, 1 December, following reports a person had been struck by a train. Colleagues from Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service also attended, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are trying to identify the man, whose death is not being treated as suspicious, and inform his family. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
First Great Western (
FGW▸ ) services between Basingstoke and Reading, Newbury and Reading and Bedwyn and London Paddington were affected by the incident.
