I want to be able to find out how I can use public transport to go where I want to go, and when I want to go. I want to know how to buy my journey and  that my ticket will be valid and accepted, and what flexibility I have if my plans change. I want to be able to find updates and waymarking as I go, and I want to travel at a reasonable speed, in safety (feeling safe too) and in reasonable comfort using the ways of travel that have been advertised / noted. If something goes wrong during my journey, I want to be kept informed and if the problems are significant be offered an alternative.

Lots of "I wants" in there - am I too demanding, or is this a reasonable passenger charter?

Probably the absolute minimum if you are going to lure people out of their personal tin boxes.

The first 3 requirement's are now available from Google and not from the transport operators who should be providing it.

Google *do* but with a pinch of salt.  I want to travel (hypothetically) from Plymouth to London this afternoon

Google offering me an 18:15 that GWR (Great Western Railway) no longer offers - GWR offering me an 18:27 change at Bristol Parkway instead.

I agree that Google shows planned, not operational details.  I doubt that many people in Plymouth first thought of going to London this afternoon when they woke up this morning.

I see the missing 18:15 train as coming under your heading of being kept informed of problems.  Our hypothetical traveller could have used Google earlier in the week to plan the journey and then not been informed of the replacement of the 18:15.  At least in this case on arrival at the station they can be directed to the slightly later train but will arrive at Paddington nearly an hour late.
