William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Person killed after being hit by First Great Western train at Pyle

A person has been killed after being hit by a Swansea-bound train in the Bridgend area.

British Transport Police (BTP▸ (British Transport Police)) said the incident happened at 13:30 BST on Sunday in Pyle.

South Wales Police and ambulance service also attended the scene.

BTP said inquiries are continuing but the death is not being treated as suspicious. First Great Western said services were running normally by 17:00 BST.

There had been delays of up to an hour on Sunday afternoon after the incident involving the service from London Paddington.

Police said they had no details of the person's identity but asked for anyone with any information about the incident to contact BTP on freephone number 0800 40 50 40.
