Points failure at Yeovil Pen Mill earlier this afternoon at around 1500. You are experiencing the knock on delays. I suspect though that you'll arrive at Bath/Bristol less than an hour down, so no compo.

Oh gosh - there's a party of 20 on an exchange visit to Melksham on that train, some of whom are staying with us. We're going to need to be all sweetness and smiles when they gat back! at least it's Saturday today ... that's the one day of the 7 in a week that the 19:35ish Westbury to Swindon service does NOT run, so they won't be trying for a connection ...

Sorry to learn that your guests will apparently be thus delayed, grahame. Out of interest, where are they travelling from - somewhere where the trains are rather more reliable, possibly? My regards to your visitors, anyway: welcome to England, please tell them!

Arrived into Bath Spa 61 minutes down. I was in the rear coach (1x 3 Car 158, 1x 2 Car 158) and the air conditioning was most welcoming. In fact the coach I was in was practically empty. The other coaches either had screaming babies/no air-con or both Nil ticket checks and my request to purchase was declined (After asking). Did manage to drink my cuppa and take this nice shot just west of Fairwood Junction though. Oh and I made it for the film in time at the ODEON

Sounds like a good case to divide the train at Westbury and send the rear portion to Swindon. I suspect we could put a few bums on seats if there was a corresponding down train in the morning, and it would be a really good step towards the 7 day railway to have a 19:35 on Saturday (when the last train is currently 15:06) rather that just on Sunday to Friday.

And that was very late last night when I was called out of bed to let them back into their room, for which their keys had been left ... inside the room. They're from India, but whether that's a frequent service area (Harpenden equivalent) or occasional / no train land (Melksham or Portishead equivalent), I don't (yet?) know.

I presume this is the 17:28 Weymouth-Bristol that we are discussing here, the original link is dead now. If so this service is usually somewhat busier. I caught it last week, and admittedly it was only a four car rather than a five car but you would not have wanted to divide it at Westbury then. It was still fairly busy all the way through to Bristol. This is not the high summer period either, it's only going to get busier.

Yes, the 17:28. I've just been speaking with the leader of our Indian guest group, who told me that she had been looking forward to a really nice train journey in the UK▸ . "The morning was OK, but the return train was older, slower, hotter and more crowded than our trains in India. Not a good journey. We weren't told that the air conditioning was working in the other carriages until a few minutes before we got off, and by that time there was no point in moving"
