From the Portsmouth News:

Quote
Delays for train passengers to and from Portsmouth

Electrical supply problems are causing disruption to train commuters in Portsmouth this evening.

Trains to and from Portsmouth Harbour are delayed by up to 20 minutes due to electrical supply problems near Hilsea.

As a result, South West Trains, Southern and First Great Western services are unable to run between Portsmouth and Havant.

South West Trains are unable to run in the London direction between Hilsea and Havant. Some trains will be terminated at Havant to run back to London.

Stagecoach buses, on Route 21, are accepting tickets between Portsmouth and Havant.

Southern passengers can use their tickets on Stagecoach 700 buses between Chichester and Portsmouth, on South West Trains services on any reasonable route, and First Great Western trains between Portsmouth and Southampton.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

My dad got caught up in this at Fareham (travelling Swanwick to Cosham).  Waited for an hour before deciding to cycle home.  Apparently the information supplied to staff on the ground was poor, having been put on and off the train several times.

By the time I arrived at Havant this evening, the CIS (Customer Information System) was completely incorrect and everyone was confused.  Manual announcemenrs didn't help either as they were also wrong (e.g. board this train for Fratton, despite it terminating at Havant).

The SWT (South West Trains) website reported this in about three different ways on the same page! Headlined 'electrical supply problems at Hilsea', the text then mentioned problems near Cosham, and just to cover every possibility, a line side fire on the up side near Havant.

Those who know the area might think it a coincidence, but the lines form a triangle with the three places mentioned being in the three different directions.  Definitely a few wires crossed somewhere...

There may have been multiple issues in Portsmouth yesterday. Whilst not a bastion of accuracy, Twitter was reporting that a vehicle drove into the level crossing barriers at Cosham station. If this is correct, and there were also power supply problems in the Hilsea area, which isn't unheard of, then it would make for a grim evening commute.
