Every Saturday and Sunday in January February, FGW (First Great Western) will be offering half-price Cheap Day Returns on the following branchlines:
  • Tarka (Branch line from Barnstaple to Exeter) Line between Barnstaple and Exeter Central
  • Tamar Valley Line between Gunnislake and Looe or Plymouth
  • Looe Valley Line between Looe and Plymouth or Gunnislake
  • Atlantic Coast Line between Newquay and Plymouth, Looe or Gunnislake
  • St Ives Bay Line between St Ives and Penzance or Truro

Accompanied children travel for just ^1 each.

The origin or destination station must be on the branch and the journey wholly within the area of validity. For example, the offer is valid from Plymouth to Newquay, but not Plymouth to Liskeard.

In addition, Railcard discounts are available to holders of all national Railcards and the Devon and Cornwall Railcard.

The Exmouth and Falmouth lines appear to be excluded from this offer this year.

Certainly a good thing, but it's a shame the offer doesn't apply on the Severn Beach line, which is usually included in events like this...

They don't do it on the Exmouth or Falmouth because they are both busy lines anywaay, I think the idea is to attract more passengers from the "quieter" lines, although Barnstaple and Gunnislake aren't really that quite!
