Delays on South Devon railway line after man struck by train

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Jon_Bayley

Commuters in South Devon are faced travel disruption this afternoon after a man was hit by a train.

The railway line between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish was blocked after the man was struck at around 3:20pm.

A tweet from First Great Western read: "Services are currently being disrupted between Exeter and Newton Abbot/Plymouth."

A statement on their website says: "We are currently experiencing disruption to services in the West of England due to a person being hit by a train in the Dawlish area.

"Services are now able to operate between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot, however, some delays and short notice alterations may still be experienced."

A British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) spokesman said: ^BTP officers were called to Dawlish Warren rail station today following a report of a man being struck by a train.

^Officers from BTP and Devon and Cornwall Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 3.21pm, and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

^Medics from the South Western Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

^Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.

"A file will be prepared for the Coroner.^
