I was there on Saturday (14/07/2012) and although the balcony was open it was not completly finished. Few if any of the shops were open, and only half the escalators were working.

Still impresive though, a good view to be had.
Once all the hoardings and barriers at main concourse level are removed, congestion should be reduced.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Just as well it was very noisy working in the offices above (although I don't work in them now)

This is an excellent adaption of the station, the first floor offices were always dingy places to work, removing most of the retail clutter from the main concourse giving it more space.

I was on the First Floor too, opposite Platform 4.  Quite nice down that end.  Long time ago now.

Were you there when there was a staff canteen above Burger King?

I once worked in Suite 3 (Platform 1 end) both on floor 1 and 2 and you never heard a thing from the noise on the station, not even the PA (Public Address).

You would not recognise the offices now, Suit 3 & 2 on both floor 2 & 3 now open plan, like wise suite 1.  There is a "Deli Bar" basically sandwiches, jacket taties and hot drinks etc on floor 2 suit 2 just before you go into floor 1 that is also the central area for meeting rooms, the Deli is used as a break out area for informal meetings and the whole building is NR» (Network Rail - home page) WIFI.  The occupants are in Suite 1 Kent Route and in Suite 2 & 3 Investment Projects Wessex and Sussex Routes

I worked there from 89 - 92 and then moved to Friars Bridge Court so you're right, I wouldn't recognise it now.  Still small offices and the great long curving corridors.  Pleased I saw it - at this distance, I can even now reveal I once used the GM's loo on the 2nd Floor (The GM's Office was at the Suburban end too).
