From the Gazette & Herald:

Quote from: Gazette & Herald
Steam legend chugs through Pewsey

The evocative sound and smell of the days of steam on British railways was conjured up on Saturday when the Cathedrals Express steam train pulled by the locomotive Tornado passed through Wiltshire.

Steam fan Tony Pym photographed the train passing through Pewsey on its way from Paddington to Exeter and Plymouth.

These steam excursion trains are operated by Steam Dreams of Guildford (01483) 209888.

On Saturday Tornado was pulling 14 carriages, 11 of which were for passengers and the remaining being the kitchen, support and brake units.

The train carried 563 passengers in total on the day, and 363 of these had bought day return tickets from London to Plymouth and back.

Mr Pym who lives in Southcott, Pewsey, said: ^ It was the first time this company had run this route. Their next outing through Wiltshire is on 21 May, when this same train will be stopping at Swindon at 10 o^clock in the morning, on its way from London Paddington to Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury.^

The cathedrals express trains are so named because all of their outings end up at or go through one or more of Britain^s cathedral cities.

Didn't look as good as the picture when it went through Canterbury on Friday hauled by two EWS (English Welsh & Scottish Railway Ltd, now known as DB Schenker Rail (UK (United Kingdom))) locos. Smiley

You really do have to hand it to the A1 steam locomotive trust's publicity machine... The loco has been a regular feature on the main line for more than three years now and it's still making headlines when it travels around the country!
