I've read the sticky about asking questions ref fares but wanted opinions on ticket validity.

I have a weekly ticket which is valid from Thatcham to Reigate which involves a change at Reading. This ticket expires next Tuesday so is valid for travel between those destinations on Saturday

On Saturday I will have travelled to basingstoke by car and am thinking of coming back by train. My question is there fore

1) Will my weekly ticket cover this
2) Will I need to buy a single from Basingstoke to Reading
3) Will I need to buy a single from Basingstoke to Thatcham because I am on a different route

TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack (aka "mini-stroke"))

I would be surprised if Basingstoke was on any valid Thatcham to Reigate route, and on that basis your season won't be valid from Basingstoke.  You'll need a Basingstoke to Reading WEST single ticket, I think - as you're linking a season with a specific journey ticket, there's no need for you to travel on a train that even stops at Reading West to do this - so you could use XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) up to RDG(resolve).

Thanks for that. I think what threw me was on a couple of occasions (probably in leaf season) because there were problems between Guildford and RDG it was allowed to change at Guildford, go to Woking, then to Basingstoke and then to Reading BUT I expect that was the exception rather than the rule!

Thanks again.

Thatcham is associated with Reading Group and Westbury Group for routeing purposes. We can discount Westbury for your journey as it is in the wrong direction.

Reigate is associated Dorking Group and Redhill Group for routeing purposes. Both these routeing points pass the fare check rule for a journey from Thatcham to Reigate so both are valid routeing points.

The only permitted route from Thatcham to Reigate via Dorking is to Reading direct and then the North Downs Line.

The only permitted route from Thatcham to Reigate via Redhill is to Reading direct, Clapham Junction via the Reading-Waterloo Line, Redhill via the Brighton Main Line, then finally the North Downs Line to Reigate.
