POLICE LAUNCH APPEAL AFTER PASSENGERS ASSAULTED ^ TREFOREST, PONTYPRIDD
British Transport Police (BTP▸ ) is appealing for the public^s help in identifying two people sought in connection with an assault on board a train at Treforest, Pontypridd.
The incident occurred after a Wales v Argentina rugby international earlier in the day. As a result of the attack, one of the victims was twice rendered unconscious.
Investigating officer PC Jon Dando said: ^The two victims were part of a group travelling back from Cardiff after a Wales rugby match at the Millennium Stadium. As the train pulled in to Treforest rail station in Pontypridd, one of the victims ^ a 26-year-old man ^ was punched by another man. As a result, the victim fell backwards and was knocked unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he was assaulted for a second time and again lost consciousness.
^While this was going on, the second victim ^ a 54-year-old woman ^ intervened and was subsequently punched by another woman. This was a particularly nasty assault which left both victims injured and in some distress.^
The incident took place around 8.35pm on board the 2006hrs service from Cardiff Central to Treherbert. Having conducted numerous lines of enquiry, officers have now released CCTV▸ images of two people they believe may have information about the incident, which happened on Saturday, 20 August 2011.
The first, a man, is described as around 6ft, with short brown hair and was wearing a blue or grey jumper.
The second, a woman, is described as around 5ft 4in with blonde hair.
Detective Inspector Mark Cleland said: ^We^ve pursued numerous avenues of investigation in relation to this incident, all to no avail, which is why we are now releasing these images. I am hopeful that someone will recognise these two individuals, who we are extremely keen to speak to as we believe they may have key information that could assist us with this investigation.
^This was a completely unprovoked and particularly violent attack on an innocent party who had simply been out enjoying a rugby match. Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated on the rail network. It is essential that we identify the people responsible for this attack, and I urge anyone with any information to contact police.^
