Travelled on the 0651 EXD^» (Exeter St Davids - next trains)-PAD^» (Paddington (London) - next trains) last Wednesday and twice during the journey, firstly while passing Westbury and then again approaching Reading, there were 'BING,BONG - will the Train Manager please contact the driver' PA^▸ (Public Address (broadcast loudspeaker announcements) or Passenger Assist (railway staff providing physical assistance to passengers with mobility issues), depending on context) messages. First time I have experienced this is many years of travelling between Exeter & London. I assumed the train crew would be able to contact each other privately via Company cellphones.

The Traincrew can communicate using the Driver-Guard communication system and attracts attention by a series of buzzer codes (in the same way as the ready-to-start at the doors).

However if the T/Manager is not in a position to hear the buzzer (TGS or bunk room in buffet) then after a time delay the "bing bong" will come over the PA^▸ (Public Address (broadcast loudspeaker announcements) or Passenger Assist (railway staff providing physical assistance to passengers with mobility issues), depending on context).
