It's been a very busy week behind the scenes.  Members might be amazed at just how many signup requests we get from people who want to join to advertise things which are nothing to do with our topics (we know this is their intent based on what they post on other boards).  A huge "Thank You" to Chris from Nailsea who takes the brunt of this work.

We've also been busy tidying up two accounts which turned out to both be being operated by the same person, but with two persona, two different ages a generation apart, and two different genders. Setting up multiple accounts (and especially where at least one of them has a profile calculated to mislead) is not acceptable on the Coffee Shop, and the ability to access both accounts has now been deleted.   But even when access is deleted in this way, we still have to consider that the poster(s) involved are member(s) in some ways - they cannot simply walk away from ongoing responsibility for what they did while able to post. Copyright breach, and passing on hints on good ways to defraud TOCs (Train Operating Company), are examples of the sort of thing we have seen which do not go away with a deletion of posting rights (and tend to remain visible on web archives sites such as http://waybackmachine.org/ ).  And this also means that once you sign up, you are not allowed to sign up for another account here either even when you consider your first account 'dead'- that would be regarded as seeking a (further, in this case) duplicate access.

Do you have something you would like to add to this thread, or would you like to raise a new question at the Coffee Shop? Please [register] (it is free) if you have not done so before, or login (at the top of this page) if you already have an account - we would love to read what you have to say!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
