An unusual event occurred yesterday at Tokyo station. On the 4 December the 17.35 Shinkansen 147 to Sendai departed Tokyo with no passengers on board.  About 200 passengers were left benind on the platform as the train departed.  The JR east japan company chairman said "Such an event has never happened before !"

There was some traincrew displacement due to bad weather and the driver did not check he had a conductor on board.  Unsurprisingly the mistake was noticed by the platform staff and the train was held at the next station and the passenger joined with some delay.  The train was already 54 minutes late due to high winds and the mistake caused a further 31 minutes delay.

So you see it can happen anywhere Smiley

I suppose it goes to show that even if you do leave all the passengers behind you're still not guaranteed a right-time arrival!
