I noticed on Saturday when at Bristol Parkway, that the 1512 service to Weston Super Mare was an HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) which was a bit of a surprise, as usually it's a 143 or 150.  Any particular reason why an HST was used on this service?

Possibly because I'd criticized their replacement of a 150 with a 153 the Saturday before?  Roll Eyes

See http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=8652.0

Rather more seriously: I suspect it may simply have been because that HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) was all that was available ...  Lips sealed

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I do hope FGW (First Great Western) are planning to strengthen the Weymouths over the holiday weekend as I think with the current weather forecast they are likely to be very busy.
