Hi

I know I could find this out with a bit of research involving the NfM etc etc, but I am a complete beginner when it comes to tickets and fares.  My brain ain't big enough to know half the rules and regs out there.

So I thought I'd ask here, as I know some members are walking NfM's, and I would trust the response put here.

I'm going to make a journey from Yate to Chepstow soon.  However, I want go via Newport as I need to sort an issue out with my passport.

Can I break my journey at Newport on a Yate - Chepstow ticket?

Also, I will be returning from Caldicot back to Yate.

If I purchase a Yate - Chepstow return, can I return from Caldicot instead of Chepstow?

Also, out of interest this time, if I brought a Yate - Chepstow return could I do the following;

Yate - BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI))
2 hours in Bristol
BTM - NWP
2 hours in Newport
NWP - Chepstow

if I could, the ticket would be of good value to me.

Thanks for your help guys.

I doubt you can go via BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI)), but the experts will probably correct me!

Via Bristol Temple Meads (BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains)) is a permitted route. Routeing guide allows Yate-Bristol TM(resolve)-Newport*-Chepstow

Break of journey is also allowed but multiple breaks of journey are not specifically covered in ticket restrictions, so a bit of a grey area, but shouldn't be a problem as there is no way barrier staff will know whether you've made a previous break, unless you've got multiple Zifa stamps on your ticket, which is highly unlikely.

*Journey Planners will offer up a change at Severn Tunnel Junction, but the routeing guide allows you to go to Newport and double back.

Update to the break of journey rules:

The guidence given to staff in NFM (National Fares Manual) 06 (in the bits unavailable to the public) states:

Customers holding tickets that permit a break of journey may break their journey at any intermediate station on an unlimited number of occasions within the validity of their tickets
