In picture No.1 the reddish-brown masonry is from the 'Exeter Volcanic Traps' and is a very common local building material. Given your route and the nature of the structure I am going to suggest that this is street level at Exeter St.Thomas.

Excellent analysis of the type of stone used in picture 1 B_B. I'm no expert in geology but I'd guess that the colour of the stone is down to volcanic conditions rather than atmospheric conditions....

After a little more thought, and investigation, I am absolutely certain that I have cracked this one! - I believe this is one of the entrance doors to the Brunel Atmospheric Railway Pumping House at Starcross.

BTW▸ (by the way) the colour of the building stone is largely due to a very high iron content.
