I notice a number of Southern's London Victoria to Southampton Central via Horsham services have been terminated at Fareham and Havant.  Other services through Horsham have also been delayed.

Here is the current running, delays have been all afternoon
Quote

This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

16:56 Bognor Regis to London Victoria due 18:47

This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

16:30 Bognor Regis to London Victoria due 18:20

This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

16:02 London Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour due 18:15
This train has been delayed and is now 30 minutes late.
This train will be terminated at Fratton.
It will no longer call at: Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour.
This is due to a passenger having been taken ill earlier.

17:57 Bognor Regis to London Victoria due 19:47
This train will be started from Barnham.
It will no longer call at: Bognor Regis.
This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

18:25 Epsom to London Bridge due 19:18
This train will be formed of 4 coaches instead of 8.
This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

18:15 Reigate to London Victoria due 18:56
This train will be cancelled.
This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

18:30 London Bridge to Horsham due 19:45
This train will be terminated at Redhill.
It will no longer call at: Coulsdon South, Merstham, Earlswood Surrey, Salfords, Horley, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Ifield, Faygate, Littlehaven and Horsham.
This train will be formed of 4 coaches instead of 8.
This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

17:02 London Victoria to Portsmouth & Southsea due 19:09
This train will be started from East Croydon.
It will no longer call at: London Victoria and Clapham Junction.
This is due to an earlier trespass incident.

The reason given is "an earlier trespass incident" - does anyone have more details?  It must have been quite a serious incident as I believe the first train was disrupted around 2pm and they are disrupted now (6:30pm).

From the NR» (Network Rail - home page) log:

13:32 - SSM TBDASC advises that 1C70 driver has reported a person climbing the signal gantry for T845 signal. 13:36 - Signaller panel 7 advises that HRH station staff have requested an emergency current isolation on the up and down lines. 1C70/2B72 at a stand in HRH platform 3, 1C51 being held at CHH on the UP, 2C69 being held at Ifield on the down and 2E46 being held at Warnham on the Down Dorking line. 1C20 being divertd via HOV due to problems at HRH 13:44 - Control request 2C95 Caped RDH - No email driver advised signaller panel 3 the train was 2D98 for Tonbridge due to 4 vice 8 after HRH problems.

So, more than your average trespass incident, but service recovery appears to have been hampered by an ill passenger on a train outside Victoria, and a driver going AWOL (Absent WithOut Leave) amongst other things. It just appears to have been one of those days!

From the West Sussex County Times (including a video report):

Quote
Man on railway gantry causes delays in Horsham

Train passengers suffered delays this afternoon when a man climbed on to Horsham's railway signal gantry.
Horsham Police attended the scene at around 1.30pm and soon after a doctor and West Sussex Fire and Rescue attended the scene.
The power to the railway line was switched off while Sussex Police and British Transport Police tried to talk the man down.
At about 2.30pm, police managed to climb the gantry and detain the man.
Passengers were offered rail replacement buses to complete their journeys.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
