 Grin Shocked Can you guess where I have made the easiest Sleeper booking in my life today (for July) ?
Paddington perhaps as they must book lots of them or may be Penzance which is an obvious port of call ! St Erth as they must have lots of time to help in quieter periods ? No, and not anywhere that would have regular Scottish Sleeper bookings either. The whole process took about 3 minutes, they even let me choose which berth and Coach I wanted to reserve.............  The winner is London Liverpool Street ticket office (operated by National Express East Anglia) !!!   Cool I had allowed 45 minutes for the transaction and wondered if I would even get what I required today depending on the booking office clerk`s experience, based on fruitless attempts over previous years by different methods !

Similar amount of time taken when I booked at Exeter St Davids one lunchtime, although I couldn't understand why they couldn't sell me the ticket at Tiverton Parkway the previous evening.

Booked at Newton Abbot only to be sold a ticket for the night before! Even checked with the person who sold it to me several times as I thought the dates were dodgy but they assured me that they were correct. Alas, they weren't. Thanks to a no show at Truro, I got a night's sleep.

Much easier to buy online now though.

When purchasing advance FGW (First Great Western) tickets, or booking a seat, I normaly do this at London Liverpool Sreet, it has been my experience that the staff at Liverpool street are more experienced/better trained than at Paddington.
There certainly seem to be sufficient ticket office staff to keep waiting times reasonable, unlike at Paddington.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.
