Missing out request stops, even when requested

Interesting question came up in an email ... has anyone ever asked for a train to stop at a request stop, but had it go straight through?  Or made an indication on the platform for a train to stop, but likewise had it just sail by, even though the timetable said it should call?

Many years ago ... it happened to me. British Rail days, Barmouth to Morfa Mawddach but we sailed on through. Apology from the guard / his error in not telling the driver, by I still ended up walking back from Fairbourne.  But I've not had (or heard of) the same experience since I moved to this part of the country, and that's half a lifetime now.

I was also on that line many years ago.  We sailed past the station and two girls came out of the platform shelter.  Driver stopped the train (past the platform) slipped it into reverse and picked them up before going forward again.

No problems personally with Perranwell since it went request only last May.

Happened a few years ago on the Cotswold Line. A passenger on the Oxfordshire Halts train requested that the train stop at Combe. Combe was officially a request stop at that time, but in practice the train stopped there every evening.

Every evening... apart from this one. The train kept going. A short way later it came to a rather sudden halt... and the driver walked/ran back to the other cab, rather flustered. He then drove backwards to Combe to let the passenger out, changed ends again and continued to Finstock.

Some very unhappy Marines at Lympstone Commando vainly waving at a Pacer - they were in civvies off for a night out.

Lelant Saltings (not current timetable) - we used to use carrier bags to wave at the drivers who seemed to leave us behind more often when it was raining.

Conductor saw us once and gave driver a long 'one' - slid to a halt just within the platform.

What irked me about regularly being left behind or taken to St Erth (against my will) was one of the drivers who stopped in the cutting (both trips) at West Cornwall golf club to pick up lost balls.

There were some mad drivers and conductors around then - I remember one very ancient looking driver going down Lelant incline at such speed that we had concerns about making the bend at the bottom.

A Conductor once told us that he'd seen a woman sunbathing naked every morning at the old Railway house just west of Carbis Bay - how he must of laughed at us peering out of the window every day.

Some Exmouth services are not booked to stop at St James Park, Polsloe Bridge, Exton or Lympstone Commando.  If I know we aren't stopping at the Camp coming back, then I let them on going to Exmouth, but I know others do not.

 Most unusual, Usually they do anything to actually avoid requesting the train, I've given up mind reading and always stop the train now,

Always amazes me that Lympstone produces the elite as they seem incapable of reading a timetable or holding the their beer (working the late Exmouths can be an unpleasant experience when the Marines have been on the Pop).

I've seen it happen on the Barnstaple line at least once - gentleman wanted to get off at Kings Nympton (heading south), and I recall him telling the guard such too. The man got ready to get off as we approached but we sailed through the station. Next thing I know the guard was back to the bloke with apologies and I think what they did was to put him on the next train at Eggesford (we did cross one there on that trip) and he went back up the line there. I would assume that there was some conversation between guards to make sure he wasn't charged or anything, and that the train would actually stop there! He did seem a little pee'd off, but then again I would've been too...
