How early are cancellations known about.........and advertised?

This is focused by me on the cotwolds line but I put it here because the answer may be of general interest - mods, move it if you feel its better located elsewhere.

I TRY to get the 0517 Malvern to PAddinton.  I can accept its never on time - I don't like it, but I can accept it.

However in recent weeks, it has been cancelled totally five times - well, in official terms, started from OXford and hence about as much use as a chocolate teapot. 

The issue is this, to pick it up, I have to leave the house at 5am which means getting up at 445am.  I do not mind this - I dont sleep much during the week anyway.  However, I DO mind when I get up to get to the station then spend an extra hour sleeping in my car because it has been *revised*.  If it were just a one off, I would not mind but its on average once a blinkin week.

I always check before I go to bed at midnight and there is never any info - i fact half the time there is never any info when I leave the house a mere 17 minutes or so before its due to depart Malvern.  So I guess the question is, how far in advance with the fat controllers know its got as much chance of running as Everton winning the premiership this season?  Do they genuinely not know themselves until the last minute or do they just like to keep it from the travelling public as an early morning wake up call.
