Madness indeed from SWT (South West Trains) but what a bargain!

This August at weekends you have a chance to travel throughout the South West Trains network for just ^10 day return (^5 for kids). So why not  visit your family or friends, enjoy a short break or explore the destinations you have never been to before? If you head up to London, don^t forget to take an advantage of our 2FOR1 offers. There^s no limit on the number of tickets available or how far you can travel ^ as long as you can get there and back on a South West Trains service in a day, you can travel to up to 184 destinations on our route.

I'm contemplating using this, driving to Newton Abbot, ^4.60 CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')) to Honiton and ^10 to London.

It is, provided other 1st class passengers are accomodated so travelling say on a 6/9 carriage 159 or a 444 you shouldn't have a problem as there is plenty of 1st class on these trains.

Similar here - Drive to Basingstoke, Basingstoke to Honiton ^10 then Honiton to Plymouth CDR ^9.80. Beats splitting a Newbury - Plymouth DR at Taunton by 50%.

A bit like Chris Green's Network South East days. Pity it's only SWT (South West Trains) and not all of the old Network South East.

Less than ^20 from Plymouth.

Just got back.  Lord Nelson and Wadebridge on the Mid Hants.  A couple of pints at my favourite pub, The Haunch of Venison by the Market Square in Salisbury afterwards.  Trains busy but not crammed.  All ran to time (and not even time to five, all were perfectly on time.)

Great stuff.  Swanage beckons - though I may wimp out and go back Heart of Wessex Dorchester - Yeovil (ie not Salisbury!) and pay the extra.

Make the most of it.

Had a great day out in Windsor on Sunday using the 'Midsummer Madness' promo!

Caught the 1/4 to 9 train from Honiton to Waterloo and then from Waterloo to Windsor and Eton Riverside.  Took an open top bus tour of Windsor before catching the train back from Riverside to Clapham Junction (crazy place - like 3 stations in 1!) and then from Clapham Jn. back to Honiton.  All in all a great day and back by 25 mins past 8!

Great value and certainly worth it!

Good idea - might as well use Midsummer Madness for this as they can't make you return on the same day!

Another thing people could do is buy 1 ^10 ticket on the Saturday, stay the night in London and buy another to come home on Sunday.

Does anyone know if SWT (South West Trains) will do a similar promotion to this anytime in the future?  Or any other TOC (Train Operating Company) in The SW for that matter...
