I was doing a fares enquiry using FGW (First Great Western)'s website for an Off Peak Day Return for BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains)-WEY and on rolling my mouse over the ticket type a box pops up telling me my fare is only valid on routes through Yeovil Junction! Now that is quite some journey on a ^14.70 CDR (Off Peak Day Return [ticket type] (formerly 'Cheap Day')). Bristol to Exeter, Exeter to Salisbury (passing through Yeovil Junction), Salisbury to Westbury and finally Westbury to Weymouth.

I know this is an obvious mistake and it should say valid via Yeovil Pen Mill (Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) NFM (National Fares Manual) 03 just says Yeovil), but could I actually do the journey via Junction as that is what the ticket validity conditions say on the website? Might make a nice days line bash!!!

You could do it with one less change - just Exeter and Basingstoke!

I once put in an online request for Melksham to Coventry and amongst the offerings was a service with just one change ... perhaps this should be on "lighter side" ... but can anyone work out where that change was?

Gosh - wouldn't a through service Wiltshire to Bournemouth be interesting.  You're not all that far out, but the one offered was possible, just a bit of long way round!

Not quite Wiltshire to Bournemouth direct, but damn close......when my time machine is complete I intend to travel to Bournemouth West from 'our' area. Now, does anyone in coffeshop land have a spare flux capacitor? Grin

Speaking of interesting routing, on Friday last when NXEC (National Express East Coast) morning trains were delayed by an overhead problem one of the train despatchers was asked to solve the problem of a delayed passenger traveling from EC main line to I. O. M via Heysham. Clearly he had missed his connection at Leeds to Heysham Port. When I looked on National Rail's iPhone journey planner it offered the next service Doncaster to Heysham Port as via Manchester to Liverpool, boat to Douglas and boat Douglas to Heysham Port. The boat, of course, arrives Heysham slightly earlier the the only daily train! Now that would be a good trip on a Doncaster to Heysham single.  Grin

Moonrakerz, I fear, like me, that you have too much time (pun intended) on your hands. Well spotted though. Made I laff Grin

I've spotted another error whilst using National Rail Enquiries. I was looking up details of Rover tickets in the south west. The Freedom of Devon and Cornwall Rover lists Arriva Trains Wales as one of the TOCs (Train Operating Company) on which this Rover is valid. Yet, according to the published map, the closest you can get to ATWs (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC)) area of operation is Tiverton! (Or Barnstaple - but the Bristol Channel gets in the way there!)
This (any the aforementioned Yeovil Junction error) may be minor, but is it not beyond the realm of possibility that ATOC» (Association of Train Operating Companies See - here) and individual TOCs give accurate information with the tickets they sell?

I've done Bournemouth to Salisbury on the old Avon Valley line. Probably with a 76XXX, I wasn't train spotting but track bashing.

I was hoping to get Yeovil Pen Mill to Yeovil junction on a Hertfordshire Railtours from Charing Cross to Waterloo via Margate Brighton and Weymouth.

Not been able to find time to do the diverted HST (High Speed Train)'s.
