Just curious really.  I have to get back to Ludlow tonight and have the choice to go via Newport (fiddly and have to change just as I get stuck in and connections are quite tight) or suck up a hereford train and connect at hereford (would get most of my assignment done).

but have feeling sardines in a can might be appropriate.

Do not travel towards Oxford, you could end up on a slow journey on buses.

There are a couple of evening HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) trains to Hereford via Swindon, Cheltenham, and Worcester that might make a nice change.  Otherwise I would go via Newport.

Thats the one i was thinking of - there is a 1916 connection from slough that goes via cheltenham to foregate street then a london midland to hereford

However it is a moot point since I have a conference calle 6-7pm now so I'll definitely be going via newport
