From the London Evening Standard:

Quote
Why spend your day in traffic, when you could be making sandcastles or paddling in the sea? We have teamed up London^s local train companies who are offering, special get-out-of-London child Off-Peak return fares for 10p over the Summer Holidays! (when adults and children travel together).

Travel outward from National Rail stations in London to over 700 destinations throughout the South East. Go to the seaside, go to the countryside, visit historic cities and towns, and all just an hour or two away, by train.

PROMOTION VALID UNTIL 6 SEPTEMBER 2009

To download your voucher CLICK HERE!

Plus, adults can get travel discounts such as 4 travel, 2 pay GroupSave deals, and there are Family and Friends, Senior and 16-24 Railcards to give you further Off-Peak travel bargains too.

Terms and conditions:
The Evening Standard 10p Child Fares voucher must be presented for ticket purchase at National Rail stations within London^s Fare Zones 1-6. If travelling from an unstaffed station within these Zones, the ticket can be bought on the train. The voucher must be carried on the journey and produced on request.
Valid for travel within the described area on: c2c, Chiltern Railways, East Midlands Trains, First Capital Connect, First Great Western, London Midland, London Overground, National Express East Anglia, South West Trains, Southeastern (but see below), Southern. NOT valid for travel on any Cross Country, Gatwick Express, Heathrow Connect, Heathrow Express, National Express East Coast, Southeastern High-Speed HS1 (High Speed line 1 - St Pancras to Channel Tunnel) service, Virgin West Coast.
The Evening Standard 10p Child Fares promotion is available to stations outside London Fare Zones 1-9 in the London & South East Network area (not Oxford-Worcester, not Isle of Wight), PLUS valid to stations in East Anglia, West Midlands, and to West Coast stations served by London Midland. See map on daysoutguide.co.uk for details. Not valid for journeys wholly within London Fare Zones 1-9. Not valid on third parties (bus links, ferries, etc), but allowed for cross-London transfer by Underground/DLR (Docklands Light Railway).
Period of the promotion: 20/07/2009 - 06/09/2009. Evening Standard 10p Child Tickets can be bought on the day or in advance, provided the start date of the ticket is on or before 06/09/2009. Tickets purchased to start for travel on the last day of the promotion may continue to be used until the expiry date of the accompanying Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, or Off-Peak Day or Super Off-Peak Day adult ticket. The latest possible expiry date is therefore 05/10/2009.
Maximum of 2 Evening Standard 10p Child fares per fare paying adult.
The promotional Child Ticket is NOT valid without the accompanying adult ticket.
Standard Class travel only. Railcard discounts and GroupSave party discounts on the adult tickets are allowed. Family & Friends Railcard holders can use the cheaper child 10p flat fare instead of the usual Family & Friends Railcard child discounted fare.
Normal refund conditions apply to the accompanying adult ticket(s) and to the Evening Standard 10p Child ticket(s).

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
