From The Oxford Times:

Quote
Rail passengers faced delays this evening caused by a broken down freight train at Oxford.

Delays of up to 40 minutes are reported by First Great Western between London Paddington and Oxford, and between London Paddington and Moreton-in-Marsh due to the broken down train at Oxford.

First Great Western said that trains were unable to divert around the affected train, which is expected to be moved shortly.

So far only one train has been cancelled.

CrossCountry services are also being affected.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

4M61 sat down at Appleford for about 40 minutes. 2N40 (Pad-Oxford local) terminated at Didcot. 1W41 (14:21 Paddington-Morton in Marsh) terminated Didcot and return 2Y85 (15:?? MIM - Didcot) cancelled. 1W41 taken forward to Oxford on 2N42 once errant freight had been moved, and transferred to 1W47 (15:51 Pad-Worcester). 3 northbound CrossCountry trains delayed.
