Speaking in support of A MULTI-MILLION-POUND revamp for Plymouth's airport Plymouth Area Business Council chairman Charles Howeson who is also chairman of FGW (First Great Western) trains said a runway extension, requiring funding of between ^10million and ^50million from an organisation such as the South West Regional Development Agency, was the ultimate aim.

He said: ^My eventual hope is that we will find a way of future-proofing the infrastructure around the remaining runway, so as to preserve all of the assets of the city airport.

^m absolutely convinced this is part of the economic lifeline of the city and we must do everything we can to assist it and provide a contemporary service.

^We are wholly supportive of the planning application and we hope very much it will succeed.

^I welcome any and all investment in our airport and our air links, and the second runway has been out of use for as long as I can remember.

^This is the right way forward.^
Is this a clash of interests or what?

Have a look at the aerial photo

The only logical extension to the runway is towards the industrial area at Estover which if my memory serves me right would have the runway going downhill?
