Rolling stock manufacturer Alstom has posted third quarter results showing an 11% rise in sales year on year (link below.)

Bombardier Transportation, has been forced to lay off 77 workers at its Derby factory ^ despite having a full order book ^ because some of its suppliers have had credit facilities withdrawn by their banks. New state-of-the-art rail hopper wagons are now transporting aggregates on behalf of CEMEX UK (United Kingdom), building materials provider, increasing its rail transportation to over 10% of all transport (link below.)

The Basque militant group Eta has claimed responsibility for shooting dead a businessman who was involved in building a high-speed railway in Spain. It warned that anyone else involved in the construction of the rail link between the Basque region and Madrid "will be an Eta target." (link below.)
