In my youth, I did my homework on the train ... and I have always found travelling on a train conducive to prompt workish activities.  To this day, I'll be answering, posting or preparing as I travel.

It would appear I have been ahead of my time ... from Yahoo

Quote
After working from home, now comes working on the go. The post-pandemic surge in hybrid working has prompted increasing numbers of professionals to carry out some work while on the move, logging in from airports and railway stations across the UK (United Kingdom), according to research.

Footfall at transport hub-based workspaces has soared by 31% on average since 2022, according to figures from International Workplace Group (IWG), one of the world’s largest providers of serviced offices, whose brands include Regus.

Article continues

The article goes on about transport hub workspaces ... in practise I very rarely use them, working in quiet(er) corners in buffets, pubs and waiting rooms and on the go on trains.  My laptop was chosen to allow the screen to be raised on a my lap on a narrow pitched seat such as (the tightest?) a 158, though I prefer to get a table seat if I can.

Making travel time "otherwise useful" means that for me speed is not of the essence and given an appropriate space that also means that I have no great shakes of a problem of wasted time if I turn up at Swindon at a time when the train is down at Westbury.   And I am quite happy when FOSSing to return home from Weymouth via Southampton.

The Coffee Shop these days has a significant proportion of members who are no longer full time employed, so I am being very careful how I write in a poll - I am going to describe my activities as "personal business" ones, either for myself, my family, or others I am involved with organisations such as volunteer groups, charities, CICs (Community Interest Company ), etc.

Just possibly retired for the third time, but never needed to work on the roam.

If the wifi on the train is up to it I will occasionally.

Big "if" though.

Regularly take part in "Teams" conference calls while travelling on a train, turning the camera off helps with the band width, I do not usually use on board WiFi but 4/5G

Very occasionally. Since a health scare I've been making the most of my time, including the enjoying the views offered by train journeys, leaving work to be done during (my dramatically reduced) working hours.

I’ve always found the view from the window much more interesting than anything on screen or page.

We're evenly split between those of us who never work on the train, those who do so only occasionally and those who so do regularly or routinely.  Interesting to learn ... not sure how much it proves.   I did not ask about whether you access the Coffee Shop from the train ...

I do access the Coffee Shop during train journeys but being retired I obviously don't work while on the train.  Work related train journeys were very few and far between and didn't warrant any online connection to my workplace.
As mentioned up thread, there's often more of interest looking out of the window than at a screen, although that can get a bit more limited after dark.
