SWR» (South Western Railway - about) responding on Twitter to a passenger giving feedback that threatening announcements do not make for a positive journey experience for them. I'm sure that certain other TOCs (Train Operating Company) are also under a similar regime:

"The announcements on our services are a requirement set by the Department of Transport. This is something we have no choice but to comply to. ^SE"

If you have a railcard discounted ticket that is rejected by a SWR» (South Western Railway - about) gateline, that's likely to be down to the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) as well and their ticketless travel survey this period.

I don't recall similar 'threats' on GWR (Great Western Railway) services.

There are on certain other operators - eg Chiltern, who had to go back to the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) to allow them to soften their appalling messages.
