Station staff strike may affect commuters

Commuters travelling to London could face disruption to train services after staff at Britain's biggest railway stations began balloting for strike action today.

Around 400 platform guards and station managers at 17 stations, including Paddington, are to be balloted by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association in a dispute over pay and conditions.

A spokesman for the TSSA^» told the Oxford Mail that he was confident workers would vote for industrial action and warned that a series of one day rolling strikes would cause disruptions.

It needs to be stressed that this is a ballot on Network Rail staff and not FGW^▸ .

There has also been a ballot by signallers and electrical control rooms also maintenance have voted for strike.

NWR are going through the pain of unpicking the mess caused by privatisation it is uncomfortable time for both the staff and the managers all of whom are very dedicated to the industry

Won't effect FGW train services as it stands then. Platforms are run by them not network rail. Also why is TSSA spokeperson making comments on a RMT^▸ ballot? Oh and it's 230 staff in 19 stations Tongue
