National Highways took over all the residuary British Rail bridges and the like some years ago and are responsible for their care and maintenance.
They have been in the spotlight recently with their filling in a number of bridges on toutes which may have another use. It has been a hot topic on Twitter for some time, led by the HRE group, the Historical Railway Estate group.
