The sight of Plymouth Argyle, bottom of the Championship, embarrassing Premier League leaders and the previously all-conquering Liverpool with this fourth-round victory was a compelling response to those who would to attempt to downgrade the magic and history of the competition.

Liverpool were arrogant enough to think that their Youth team, with no real first team backup on the bench would be sufficient. I'm in Plymouth later in the week and will be watching Albion on Saturday who are currently enjoying a tremendous run of results...............I have just about recovered from a day at Twickenham on Saturday!!! |

Yes, congratulations to Argyle. It seems that top level managers never learn! I recall an FA Cup third round match at Old Trafford 20 years ago when Alex Ferguson put out a 'third string' expecting to beat (then) non-league Exeter City. He had to rely on his full strength first team to beat little-old-Exeter in a replay at St James Park! (writing this before the event) I expect Nottingham Forest will not be quite so arrogant on Tuesday evening! |

You say youth team, but had a greater average age than Argyle! Liverpool’s average age of their “youth” team was 25, Argyles main team 23! |

I don't have much interest in football / soccer / wendyball* but it would be remiss of me not to mention that tonight it is Exeter City FC▸ 's turn to try and make headlines by seeing off Nottingham Forest.
(Given Exeter's recent form I guess the bookie odds on this would be pretty good).
